68. Our Favourite Perks of Teaching

Teaching isn’t always easy but it comes with some pretty amazing perks that make it all worthwhile. In this episode we’re slowing down to celebrate the parts of teaching that fill our wells!

Impact and Influence: Teaching isn’t just about delivering lessons; it’s about the way we show up for our students every single day. We talk about those little moments, like when a student finally believes in themselves because of something you said, or when they carry a piece of advice with them long after they leave your classroom. That’s the kind of impact that sticks.

Constant Change and Creativity: No two days in teaching are ever the same, and honestly, that’s what keeps it fresh. New students bring new personalities, and with that comes the need to think outside the box, try new approaches, and sometimes laugh at ourselves when things don’t go as planned. It’s the kind of challenge that pushes us to keep growing, and it makes the work exciting.

Community and Connection: One of the best parts of this job is the people. The sense of community in a school is something special. Together we share laughs, struggles, and everything in between. It really is like being part of something bigger than yourself.

Lifelong Learning and Aha Moments: There’s nothing like watching a student’s face light up when something finally clicks. From new strategies to unexpected lessons our students teach us, it’s a cycle of growth that never stops.

Organization and Balance: Teaching naturally teaches you to find systems and routines that work, because without them it’s easy to feel like things are spinning out of control. That balance between planning and flexibility is a skill that carries over into every part of life.
