62. From Hectic to Hygge

This one’s for every teacher who's ever gone back to school after a “break” and thought, “Wow, I’m still tired.” You had days off… but somehow it all still felt like a blur of errands, events, and expectations. Where was the rest? Where was the hygge? In this episode, we're talking about how to make sure those cozy, calm, truly restful moments are built in, not squeezed in.

☑️ What to Expect:

Plan Ahead So You Can Actually Unplug
Take care of the stuff that needs attention before the break begins, like gathering recent marks or mapping out the first week back. This simple prep frees you up to fully check out, instead of feeling like you're “resting” with one foot still in school mode.

Try the One-and-Done Approach
Dedicate a single day to powering through errands and tasks. Make a list, pack snacks, and hit the road early. No running around for seven days straight. You get it all done, “one and done” and then the rest of your break is yours to enjoy.

Turn Off the Teacher Brain
Delete your alarm schedule. Don’t check your email. Trade structure for flow: sleep in, work out when you want to, and give yourself permission to do things for no reason except because they feel good.

Set Tiny, Intentional Goals for the Break
Not the pressure-filled type but just small, real goals like reading a book that’s been on your shelf forever or tidying a corner of your home you've been avoiding. It’s not about being productive; it’s about choosing things that feel rewarding and peaceful. And remember, it’s okay if those plans shift. That’s the point.

Choose Experiences Over Stuff
If gift-giving is part of your holiday season, consider keeping it simple. Less stuff often means less stress and more room for meaningful experiences. Wrapping fewer things, spending less money, and focusing on time together can all make a big difference.

Limit the Comparison Trap
Pay attention to what you consume both online and off. Ask yourself: “Is this adding joy, or just adding work?” Then adjust accordingly.

Let Go of the “It Has to Be on This Day” Rule
Traditions are great, but not if they drain you. If splitting up celebrations or moving things around helps you breathe a little easier? Do it.

💧Well Wishes: As you head into your holidays, we hope you can find a little space to pause, breathe, and create your own “just had a break” feeling. Teaching can be hectic, life can be hectic, but you deserve to feel restored, not just rushed.
