60. Life Edits for Teachers
In this episode, we’re talking about life edits. Those small, intentional changes that make teaching and everyday life run smoother. We dive into the edits that help us streamline our routines, simplify systems, and save time and energy.
☑️ What to Expect:
- Streamlining Prep: We share one of our favourite life edits for creating calm mornings and saving time: organizing all weekly resources into daily folders—Monday through Friday—so everything’s ready to go. No last-minute photocopy jams or searching for handouts. And if something doesn’t get used one day? It just gets bumped to the next folder, simple, flexible, and stress-free.
- Prep Pockets (Inspired by Popcorn!): We talk about using those small moments, like waiting for popcorn to pop, to tackle quick organization tasks that save time later. A few mindful minutes here and there can really add up to smoother days and organized spaces.
- The Two-Question Edit: We share our go-to decluttering mindset built around two questions: “Why is that there?” and “What is it used for?” Instead of waiting for a big deep clean, this ongoing habit keeps our spaces calm, functional, and manageable.
- Step Away and Reset: We talk about knowing when to pause and reset, especially when you hit a wall with work that requires focus. Sometimes the smartest, most efficient move is to walk away, recharge, and come back later with fresh energy and perspective.
- Lesson Lineups: We share one of our most time-saving edits—Lesson Lineups: organized digital lists of lessons, complete with links, slides, and resources all in one doc. No more endless scrolling or searching. And thanks to tab grouping, everything stays tidy and accessible without cluttering your screen.
- Laugh It Off: We remind ourselves (and each other) not to take things too seriously. Mistakes happen (sometimes they’re even funny) and being able to laugh at the little stuff keeps things lighter and more joyful.
💧Well Wishes: Think of life edits as small, ongoing tweaks that make your days flow a little smoother. You don’t need to overhaul everything at once. Just start noticing what slows you down or drains your energy, and make a small change. Whether it’s clearing a surface, grouping your lessons, or giving yourself permission to bump a task to tomorrow, these tiny edits can bring big relief over time. Keep refining, adjusting, and editing as you go. That’s how we make space for what really matters, both in and out of the classroom.
