53. Appreciating August

Every August, we seem to experience a shift, a slow turning of the dial from anxiety to anticipation to appreciation. And that’s not just poetic framing, it’s how our podcast has naturally evolved over the years:

Season 1: August Anxiety
Season 2: August Anticipation
Season 3: Appreciating August

This shift tells us something important: with time, intention, and a bit of reflection, we can change how we experience this season. This year, we’re leaning into the idea of slowing down and appreciating what we already have before September comes rushing in.

☑️ What to Expect:

Be in the Moment: There’s something powerful about choosing to be present, especially when time feels like it’s slipping away. Whether you’ve got two weeks left of summer or two days, being in the moment matters.

We often say, “The grass is greener where you water it.” So what are you watering right now?

Take five minutes to do absolutely nothing. Or take a walk without your phone. Or just sit in the sun. These aren’t wasted moments—they’re necessary ones. The pressure to “get ready” for the school year will still be there, but pausing gives us the energy to meet that pressure with purpose, not panic.

Appreciate What You Already Have: We live in a time when it’s easy to see what others are doing, having, and preparing, and forget how good we’ve already got it. We might want to overhaul a room or start fresh, but sometimes a small tweak is all it takes. Sometimes, all we need is a fresh perspective.

Goal Talk: Major and Minor: Let’s talk goals, but gently. We’re not here to hustle through August. Pick one major goal (a bigger task or intention) and one minor goal (something light, doable, or joyful).

Also ask: What am I not doing this year?
Let go of the pressure. If something didn’t serve you last August, leave it behind. You don’t need to wish in the well. Just water what you already have.

Spark Creativity by Doing Something Different: Creativity doesn’t have to be productive—it just has to feel good. This is the time to reconnect with something that’s been on the backburner. Try reading a book for fun, organizing a space, trying a new recipe, or simply doodling, walking, or daydreaming. These small shifts open space for clarity, peace, and sometimes surprising motivation.

💧Well Wishes: This August, let’s not rush to the finish line. Let’s appreciate the view, the breeze, and the quiet. Do less with more presence. Choose contentment over comparison. Savour.
